Central Maine Power

Members working at Central Maine Power (CMP) comprise the largest bargaining unit in IBEW Local 1837, with more than 700 skilled professionals represented across multiple departments. Central Maine Power is the state’s largest electric transmission and distribution utility, serving over 670,000 electricity customers throughout central, southern, and western Maine and powering homes and businesses in hundreds of communities across the state.

The union contract at Central Maine Power covers a wide range of roles, including field and support workers in line, meter, and substation departments, customer service representatives, area and systems dispatchers, engineers and programmers, GIS and CADD technicians, technical services staff, and other critical support personnel. Together, our members design, build, maintain, and repair the electric grid that provides safe, reliable power to the largest customer base of any electric utility in Maine, while also ensuring service continuity across New England.

IBEW Local 1837 members at CMP are organized into Units 6, 7, 8, and 9 based on work location. The union and company continue working together on contracts that protect wages, benefits, and staffing levels that support both member well-being and quality service for Mainers.
