Approximately 45 members of IBEW Local 1837 are employed by Versant Power in Northern Maine at the former Maine Public Service (MPS) locations in Presque Isle, Fort Kent, Caribou, and Island Falls. MPS was acquired by Maine & Maritimes in 2004, which was later acquired by Emera Inc. in 2010. In 2020, the company was renamed Versant Power after ENMAX Corporation of Calgary, Alberta, completed a $959 million transaction to purchase the utility.

IBEW Local 1837 members at Versant Power serve as line workers, stock handlers, customer service representatives, and technical service workers. Together, they maintain and operate the electric distribution system that delivers reliable power to communities across Northern Maine.

These members played a significant role in the construction of the Evergreen Wind Energy Project in Mars Hill. Their work included running wire nearly a mile up the mountain, constructing a substation and switching station, and connecting the facilities, demonstrating the skill and dedication of union labor in supporting renewable energy development.

Beyond their work for the utility, IBEW Local 1837 members at Versant Power are deeply involved in their communities. They have volunteered countless hours on local projects, including running wire for lighting at Maine Winter Sports facilities in Fort Kent and Presque Isle, as well as for the Caribou School District ski trail, helping strengthen the region they proudly serve.

IBEW Local 1837 members working at Versant Power in Northern Maine belong to Unit 11 and participate in Unit 11 meetings and activities, maintaining strong representation and engagement within the local union.
