WGME-TV 13

IBEW Local 1837 represents approximately 40 employees at WGME-TV 13, the CBS Television Network affiliate in Portland, Maine. In addition to its CBS programming, the station also produces news content for the local Fox affiliate, WPFO-TV, expanding the station’s role in delivering broadcast news to the region.

WGME-TV 13 is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, a publicly traded media company based in Baltimore that owns, operates, or provides services to dozens of television stations across the country. Sinclair purchased WGME-TV 13 in 1998 from Guy Gannett Communications, a locally owned media company at the time.

IBEW Local 1837 is proud to represent many of the dedicated professionals who work behind the scenes at WGME-TV 13. These skilled broadcast employees include news editors, assignment editors, photographers, engineers, producers, and directors. Together, they create and produce a wide range of news programs, public service content, commercials, and promotional announcements that serve viewers throughout Southern Maine. Their work has earned recognition from local, state, and national journalism and broadcasting organizations.

At WGME-TV 13, IBEW members work alongside their union colleagues represented by the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), which represents the station’s reporters and news anchors, demonstrating the strength of union collaboration in delivering high-quality local journalism.
