IBEW 1837 at Versant Power - Northern
Approximately 45 members of IBEW 1837 work for Versant Power at the former Maine Public Service in Presque Isle, Fort Kent, Caribou, and Island Falls, Maine. MPS was acquired by Maine & Maritimes in 2004 which in turn was acquired by Emera Inc. in 2010. The company name was changed to Versant Power in 2020 after ENMAX Corp. of Calgary, Alberta, completed a $959 million transaction to acquire the utility.
IBEW 1837 members who work at Versant Power are lineworkers, stockhandlers, customer service representatives and technical service workers.
These members were closely involved in the construction of the Evergreen Wind Energy project in Mars Hill, running wire nearly a mile up the mountain, constructing a substation and switching station, and running the wire between those facilities.
The members at Versant Power are proud to serve their community in more ways than just their work for the utility. Members have also put in many volunteer hours helping with such community projects as running wire for lighting at the Maine Winter Sports facility in Fort Kent, the Caribou School District ski trail, and the Maine Winter Sports facility in Presque Isle.
IBEW 1837 members who work at Versant Power in Northern Maine belong to Unit 11. IBEW Local 1837 union stewards and Unit officers at Versant Power in the Northern portion of their territory are:
